This blog follows the lives of the inhabitants of Pine Hollow, a Sims 2 neighborhood.
Pine Hollow is a small town located on Pine Mountain. A forty-five minute drive from the city of Arcadia, the town boasts low crime rates and a leisurely way of life. Pine Hollow is the kind of town where citizens know everyone else and they all take part in the running of their town.
Arcadia is the nearest city to Pine Hollow and is located along the coast. Arcadia is home to the prestigious Pine State University and has an active cultural and social environment.

Gameplay Notes:
I play my hood based on rounds that cover two years. So throughout one round seasons will go through two full cycles, from fall of the first year through summer of the second year. I have aging turned off in each household and I manually age each Sim two days when I’m done playing their household. Any age transitions will be delayed until the following summer, except in the case of infants. Infants will age during the seasons that would coincide with their first birthday. For example, infants born in winter will age to toddler the following winter. After that, all other age transitions in each Sim’s life takes place at the end of summer. The two year system is thanks to Laura at Lakeside Heights. The play order of households will change each round, depending on storylines, and Sims will pop up in other households’ updates as part of the interconnected neighborhood feeling. I want my Sims to live and breathe and develop their own personalities and histories, and keep up with family and friends throughout their lives.
I use Hook’s randomizer and a Random Occurrence Scenarios file based on one by Jade and edited by me to determine each round what ROS’s will occur and who they will affect.
Expansion packs I use: University, Nightlife, Open For Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Stuff packs I use: Family Fun Stuff, Celebrations Stuff, H&M Stuff
This is a “sort of” Prosperity Challenge neighborhood. It follows a lot of the same basic ideas as the Prosperity Challenge, but I don’t completely follow the rules and just make up my own based on how I want to play.
Thanks to Jade and the wonderful Isle of Thyme (now no longer online) for the inspiration on playing a Sims 2 neighborhood with integrated economy system. A big thanks to Laura at Lakeside Heights, Carla at Sullivan, and Apple Valley for detailing their playstyle on their blogs. I’ve borrowed a lot of ideas from them and incorporated them into a way that works for my hood.
This page has the following sub pages.
Wow, i like how you have so much detail with this town, kind of what im trying to go for with mine!!
Im liking Pine hollow so far.
Its really cool
Yasmin x
Yasmin – Thank you! Good luck with setting up your town!
I like the system. Can I use your ideas for my Neighborhood but sort change it a bit so it doesn’t sound like plagiarism?
Sure!
My system is based on how the Isle of Thyme was run (the blog is now defunct).
Yeah I was getting into Isle of Thyme

I love this blog!
I notice you have the Community Time Project listed in the mods you use.
Do you still use it? and does it work ok with AL?
I would really like to try it but since it hasn’t been updated for AL I’m very wary…
Anilyn – Thanks! Yes, I do still use the Community Time Project and it’s been working great even with AL. Every now and then, my Sims will come home right away instead of staying away all day, but that happened every now and then even before I installed AL so I don’t think it’s necessarily a problem with AL. It doesn’t happen very often though, so it’s no big deal to me and when it does happen, I just use the sethour cheat to change the time to later in the day to make up for it. But I haven’t had any problems with the hack working any differently with AL than it has for the previous EPs. I’ve even used it on apartment lots and it works fine.
Shana – thankyou
This is very reassuring – you’ve given me the confidence to try it now.
Recently when they’ve returned from a community lot, I’ve been using macrotastics to put my sims on power idle until the time they should have come home. Only problem is I often forget what time they should have returned :lol
I find it interesting that you have a character named Madison Craig. That’s my name… This blog popped up when I was googling myself (I’m bored at work).
She seems a little slutty though, not like the real Madison.
Welcome to my blog!
My Madison isn’t really slutty. She’s confident and likes to dress in cute outfits that show off her figure, but she’s very picky about boys. At almost 18, she’s still a virgin and has kissed only three boys, one of whom kissed her without her permission. But she’s never gone farther than kissing and holding hands because she’s not willing to settle or do anything she’s uncomfortable with just to get a guy to like her.
Madison is one of my favorite Sims in my story. She’s hilarious with the things she talks about and the self-assured gestures she makes when a boy compliments her.
Nice to meet a real Madison Craig!
Hi Shana,
meet a Belgian fan
I am really in love with your town and its simmies!
They seem like real little persons to me ; each with their good or less good charcteristics.
Also the daily problems, little things of happines…you narrate it so well!
It took me a while to figure the playing system out (2 years a round, seasons, manually aging,…) but I think I got it now (at least I hope I do
)
So cool !!
I’m playin’ a Legacy Challenge for the last two years but I want to brighten up things a bit so I am thinking of integrating a few of the stuff I’ve seen here.
ROS is one of them already
Anyway, keep up the excellent writing and please never stop with Pine Hollow
Veerle
Hi Veerle! Thanks for visiting and commenting! The ROS are really fun to add into game playing because they always add a new twist to your Sims’ lives! Laura over at Lakeside Heights came up with the two year system and she has a really in-depth explanation of how she uses it. Definitely go check her blog out to find out more about it!
Pine Hollow is such an amazing town, the style you write with is so fresh, it really provides insight into the sims… makes them feel more like actual people. And the way you run it is definitely amazing. Definitely never stop with Pine Hollow
Tessa, Thanks for the sweet comments!
It makes me happy to hear that they seem like real people to readers. They seem like real people to me sometimes when they make their own decisions about what they want to do, LOL!
Yu are awsome S!
:D
Gimme yo e-mail! I wanna add you as a user on my blog!!
It would really put a little ZANG BANG POW into it.
I blog, you make it better so it will appeal more.
I can’t blog like you!
You can blog better than me!
Hi Shana,
I’ve been reading your blog for literally years, back when it was still called something like Silver Tuesday, and I finally decided to leave a comment!!! I love your play style and wanted to set up a hood similar to yours. One of your rules is that someone caught with a counterfeiting machine gets 15 years in jail. I don’t think this has ever happened to one of your sims, but how were you planning to replicate this “jail” thing, if it ever did happen? I’m just curious! Anyway, I love your blog, and get really happy every time you update
Hi Nancy! Sorry for the late reply. Thanks so much for reading, and for leaving a comment!
You’re right, that hasn’t ever happened to any of my Sims. I never had anyone bad enough to use it.
But my plans were that if someone was caught, I’d use the prison hacks from Simlogical. There’s a prison tag that you put into your Sim’s inventory and it keeps him/her from being seen around at community lots. So you could move your Sim into a prison lot, give them the tag, and they won’t show up unexpectedly around the neighborhood in other lots. I hope that helps!
