The warm late spring days mean that the Smith family spends all the time that they aren’t at school or work outside enjoying the sunshine. The kids love to fly their kites in the open space between their house and the Menons next door.

They don’t have any family living locally and they don’t have enough money to spend on a big, lavish wedding, so one afternoon Waylon, Viola, and Baine head down to the courthouse to get married.

“I was going back over our accounts,” Carrie says one afternoon, “and I was thinking, why don’t we go ahead and pay off a big chunk of that loan for the house in Takemizu?”
River nods. “That would help alleviate some of the interest charges,” he says.

Annette West has entered her third trimester with her second child–and she’s gotten a bit grumpy lately. Darin tries to keep quiet and stay out of her way, but a hungry pregnant woman is an easily irritated and impatient woman!

Waylon Menon is 37, Baine Austin is 9

Baine doesn’t like it when things change. Change is never good. Change meant that his mom died. And now change means that his best friend Lucas doesn’t want to play all the games that they used to play together. Lucas is only a year older, but lately it feels more like ten years older. He’s getting taller, more boring, and doesn’t want to do all of the things Baine wants to do anymore.
